CO big game Unit 3, 301 offers a good deer population with thousands and thousands of acres of public land to hunt.
Location: These units stretch from Wyoming’s southern border then east to Hwy 13 that travels north out of the famous Craig Colorado area. The southern boundary is Hwy 40 that travels east and west from Maybell Colorado to Steamboat through the town of Craig, CO. The southwest corner is Hwy 318 out of Craig heading NW to Browns Park Colorado.
Amenities: There are numerous hotels, at least one campground, and a couple of grocery stores available if needed during your hunt.
Terrain: The buck-doe ratio is increasing. The mid-range elevations with mountain shrub and piñon-juniper breaks generally hold the most deer, especially during the regular rifle seasons. Movement occurs with weather and hunting pressure. Lower elevations consist of sage, pinon, and juniper cover. You can expect in the first and second seasons to have zero to light snow chances. The later season brings a more moderate chance of snow. Most of the unit is easily accessible and 4WD is not necessary.
