Unit 72 & 73 Info: Colorado unit 72 is about 30% public land and comprised of a portion of the San Juan National Forest and BLM land. The Canyon of the Ancients Monument allows hunting. Colorado unit 73, located in the southwest corner of the state, and near the 4 corners area is home to the town of Cortez CO. With New Mexico boundary to the south and Utah to the west of unit 72. These two hunting areas combine a total of well over one thousand six hundred square miles.
Amenities: There are several hotels, a minimum of 10 campgrounds, and numerous grocery stores available close by if needed during your hunt.
Terrain: Hunters can expect to find moderate to intermediate terrain with elevation changes starting near five thousand feet up to thirteen thousand feet. Deep canyon lands with moderate hills provide some easier hunting, farmers have private irrigated fields to maintain a healthy herd of deer and elk. Sage bushes and pinyon/juniper cover a good bit of the terrain. The public land is primarily BLM and you will find some located in the San Juan National Forest.
