Colorado Unit 136 Description

Unit 136 Located in Bent, Las Animas and Bent Counties bounded on the North by Colorado 109 and Purgatoire River; on East by Colorado 109; on the South by U.S. 160; on the West by Chacuaco Creek and Purgatoire River.

GMU 136 Elevation: 4,380 to 5,857 feet. Terrain: Flat to gently rolling with irregular steep canyons and plateaus.
Vegetation: Shortgrass prairie, large pinon and juniper areas, limited dryland and CRP farm land, riparian in a few canyons. Weather: First freeze or snow possible early Oct. Severe weather possible by December. Land Status: 90 percent private. Hunter Access: Poor for deer; fair to good for pronghorn. Mule Deer: Majority of private lands are leased to outfitters. Expect to pay substantial fees to access private lands in this unit. Elk: Hunt the pinon/juniper breaks. Pronghorn: Southern half of unit on forest land property although small herds are found on the Rimrock and Purgatoire RFW properties.
