In the earlier seasons, begin your scouting above the timberline and near water sources, as this is where deer congregate in the warmer temperatures. As winter progresses, the herds will begin moving into the lower altitudes. Archery and muzzleloader tags drawn for this unit are also valid in Units 11, 13, 22, 131 and 231. An add-on bear tag is available for purchase when holding an archery or muzzleloader mule deer tag. Keep in mind that the late season hunting grounds will be shared with elk hunters. Terrain in GMU 211 CO

The terrain of Unit 211 Colorado consists of an easily-traveled landscape full of mesas, valleys, foothills and flatlands. The rolling ridges, basins, creek bottoms and prairieland provide habitat ideal for deer, elk and antelope. The elk tend to move into the smaller crevices, especially as hunting pressure increases. The elk herd will begin migrating out of the unit as the winter ramps up. The antelope stick to the grasslands and rolling hills. The mule deer make their own way depending on the weather patterns and seasonal changes. Hunters are able to hunt this unit, no matter what physical shape they may be in.

Vegetation in GMU Unit 211 CO

Primarily a scrub-covered unit consisting of sagebrush, mountain mahogany, oak varieties and pinyon-juniper woodlands, Unit 211 Colorado caters to the wildlife of the area. The pinyon-juniper trees provide an important winter diet of its leaves, fruit and seeds to antelope, deer and elk. The mountain mahogany is a huge part of the mule deer’s diet, at all times of the year. The vegetation provides the big game with a sense of security, as they shy away from the main roads and heavy populated areas.

Access within Colorado Unit 211 can be limited due to the private land stretches. However, there is an elaborate Meeker Trail System in the southern portion of the unit.
