Information: 3RD season cow elk tag in unit 61 Colorado. Private Land Only. Hunt this beautiful 2200 acre ranch and fill up your freezer. This ranch holds lots of elk and pressure from the public land pushes elk onto the property from the abundance of famous GMU 61.
Terrain: The elevation in this area can range from 4570 along the Dores river to 10388 at the summit of the Horsefly peak. In elevations at 6500 or below, you will be in a more high desert plant community. Important plant species include but are not limited to black sagebrush, winter fat, four wings saltbush, shade scale saltbush, broom snakeweed, greasewood, black brush, and rabbitbrush. In the higher elevations, the terrain is more covered in pinon pine, juniper woodlands, grassland, shrubs, black sagebrush, Indian white grass. The pinon-juniper covers around 40 percent of this unit. Numerous roads provide easy access but most canyons are only accessible by foot or by horseback.
Hunting Tips: Hunters are recommended to hunt at higher elevations, mostly in the early seasons. Those who do venture into the toucher canyon terrain could be highly rewarded though. Be sure to stay on the public lands in the canyon area. Hunters should stay away from most roads.
